Following a rigorous procurement process, PageOne was chosen due to its commercial pedigree, financial credibility and its incomparable commitment to data and information security through its ISO27001 accreditation. PageOne’s resilient infrastructure, and its high levels of technical and customer support were also key considerations.

PageOne has been selected as the preferred supplier for JANET txt subject to contract negotiation
In response to the requirements of the JANET community, JANET(UK) procured a Short Messaging Service, JANET txt, in April 2007. The service is specifically for use within the education and research sector and was procured to meet their particular requirements.

The current contract for JANET txt expires in April 2010. JANET(UK) wishes to continue the JANET txt service. This procurement is to appoint a single supplier to provide such a service for up to a further four years, starting in May 2010 subject to mutual agreement.

JISC Conference 2010

London’s QEII will host this year’s JISC 2010 Conference, centred on the theme of Technology: at the heart of education and research. This will be the 8th annual conference, bringing JISC’s expertise and knowledge on technology in education to over 750 academics, IT experts, library professionals, policy makers, research staff, senior managers, students and teachers from across education within the UK and internationally. Supporting learners to become more effective in a digital age and using technology to build better relationships are some of the sessions, which will take place during the event.

Naace is the professional association for those concerned with advancing education through the appropriate use of ICT. This year’s three-day conference, aims to bring together individuals from education community together with government and industry players to provide a forum to share best practice and exchange ideas. Text messaging helps pupils spell

Children who regularly use the abbreviated language of text messages are actually improving their ability to spell correctly, research suggests. Researchers say text language uses word play and requires an awareness of how sounds relate to written English. This link between texting and literacy has proved a surprise, say researchers. These latest findings of an ongoing study at the University of Coventry contradict any expectation that prolonged exposure to texting will erode a child’s ability to spell.
